Four Governors of the Peoples Democratic Party from the South-south region of the Country on Friday stormed Calabar for a brief ceremony, to formally commission the Atiku/Okowa Presidential campaign office as well as inaugurate the Youth and Women wing of the presidential campaign council.

The Governors, Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State, Douye Diri of Bayelsa State and Godwin Obaseki of Edo state were accompanied by Senator Dino Maleye and received by former Governor Liyel Imoke, the Deputy Director General , Operations of the PDP Presidential Campaign Organization.

The Campaign office located at the heart of the state capital, along Ndidem Usang Iso road was filled with supporters but the absence of the governorship candidate of the Party, Senator Sandy Onor and the State Chairman of the Party Venatius Ikem were obvious.

Both Senator Onor and Ikem are strong political ally of Governor Nyesom  Wike of River State who had vowed not to support Atiku/Okowa ticket, and their absence may not be unconnected to the commitment they may have entered with Governor Wike.

Speaking at the event, the Vice Presidential Candidate of PDP and Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa said the PDP have never lost any presidential election in Cross River state “and I know we’ll not lose in 2023 but we need to work hard because the number of votes matter and I believe Cross River State will do better.”

He said, “we came to let you know that we are with you all the way and there’s no reason to fear, we’ll work with you to ensure we win all the election in Cross River State and concerning our nation Nigeria, there’s a huge challenge in this country; the level of disunity and insecurity in this nation is something that should worry each and every one of us. And the fact that the educational system is threatened, and the fact that our children could not even get employed because industries are folding up by the day new one are not coming, that’s not the Nigeria of our dream.”

“I believe as a party we need to quickly recover this nation and to rebuild it in such a manner that we’ll e able to stay on course again. We need to have a secure nation, we need to re-grow the economy, we need to reunite the people and these is what the presidential candidate has promised Nigerians and our own as a party is to keep to our promises.”

“We may not be like other who will want to speak to the people the very words that they’ll like to hear but inside their heart they do not mean it.”

Also Speaking, Governor Udom Emmanuel who inaugurated the Youth/Women wing of the Presidential Campaign Council said I really want to appreciate this campaign organization because I don’t think there are many campaign office that’s as fine as this, my duty is to go round all and bring out the scores.

On behalf of all of us we want to appreciate the warm reception that we’ve received right from the airport and the number of people coming out goes ahead to confirm.

I just want to reiterate the fact that you already know that since 1999 no other party has won election in Cross River State except PDP and I don’t think 2023 will be different.

Today we just came so that we’ll see your faces and I want to assure you that all of us are behind you because we want you back with our colors in this state. Be rest assured of our support that Cross River PDP will stand and stand firm.

I don’t know which other party would favour the South-south more than the party that south is in the center.

As the chairman of the presidential campaign council of Atiku – Okowa campaign which is a movement, I stand here today to inaugurate the youth and women wing of the Cross River State chapter of this presidential campaign council.

Another speaker at the event, Senator Dino Malaye charged the psrty supporters with different songs and declared that there will be no gentleman as concern the 2023 elections. “We will not allow anyone rob the PDP of victory”.

Former Governor Liyel Imoke who is regarded as the leader of PDP in Cross River State assured party faithful in his brief remarks that the PDP bigwigs will be back in the state in no distance time for proper campaign.
