The dust is yet to settle two days after the Cross River State chapter of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria PFN came out openly to endorse Senator Sandy Onor, the Governorship candidate of the PDP as their preferred choice in the March 11 polls.

The Secretary General of PFN who incidentally had his signature appended on the endorsement document, have come up to disassociate himself.

The PFN Secretary General, Apostle Frank Umo, also the General Overseer of Shalom church international Calabar said the decision of PFN chairman to publicly endorse the PDP candidate was not a product of fair play nor transparency.

According to the PFN chief scribe, the document read and released to the media by the Chairman of PFN Dr. Lawrence Ekwok, was supposed to be presented to the PFN General Assembly for deliberation.

“Rather the meeting was turned to a press conference where the media was invited and the Governorship candidate of the PDP was also invited for prayers.”

He emphasized that “the document was supposed to be presented as a report and not a communique. There is no where in our minutes that says we want to present Sandy Onor officially. There is no where that says in the minutes that there is going to be a press conference.

They just invited the man and said we have adopted him and let’s pray for him.

Adding, “making a press statement binding on everybody, without first feeling the pulse of the people is my worry. When Sandy Onor was talking, there was commotion and murmurings and I was praying let something not happen.”

“It Is very wrong for a church to now forcefully impose a candidate on members. PFN is not a church, it is a fellowship of churches in Cross River State. In PFN, we don’t impose doctrine on any person. My first assignment is to pastor my church. I cannot destroy my church because of PFN. what will happen if the PFN sacrifice your position, my response is that I can’t sacrifice my church and members for PFN in decisions like this.

I am personally supporting Senator Prince Bassey Otu but I can’t impose him on my church members because some of them are PDP members.
